Cookie policy
What we set on majormoneymatters.co.uk, why, and how to change your preferences.
This policy covers the cookies and similar technologies we use on majormoneymatters.co.uk, what they do, and how to change your preferences. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your personal information more generally.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website places on your device to help it work, remember your preferences, or measure how the site is used. Some are set by us. Some are set by third-party services we embed on certain pages. We also use a small number of similar technologies such as local storage for the same purposes.
The cookies we use
We group cookies into two categories.
Essential cookies
These cookies are required for the site to work. They cannot be turned off in our cookie banner because the site would not function correctly without them. They include:
- Cookies that remember your cookie preferences themselves, so we do not show the banner on every page.
- Session cookies that allow secure form submission on the contact and enquiry forms.
- WordPress and security cookies set when you log in to the site (used by staff only).
Optional services (only with your consent)
Until you make a choice in our cookie banner, none of the services below load. If you decline, they stay off. If you accept, the page reloads and they start working. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.
- WordPress.com Stats (Jetpack), by Automattic. Aggregated visitor statistics that show us which pages are read and where visitors come from. Loads a script from stats.wp.com and may set Automattic cookies. Privacy policy: automattic.com/privacy.
- Chatway live chat, by Premio. The chat widget in the corner of the page, loaded from chatway.app. It uses cookies or similar storage to keep your chat session connected. Privacy policy: chatway.app/privacy-policy.
- Gravatar hovercards, by Automattic. Profile previews on avatar images, loaded from Automattic. Privacy policy: automattic.com/privacy.
- Google Analytics 4 (where enabled). If we have analytics measurement switched on, it runs in Consent Mode and only stores analytics cookies after you accept. The data is aggregated and we do not use it to identify individuals.
Third-party embeds
We do not currently embed third-party media players or booking widgets on the site. When our online appointment scheduler (Microsoft Bookings) goes live on the booking page, it will load from Microsoft and may set its own cookies; we will update this policy at that point.
We do not embed advertising trackers, social media pixels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or otherwise), or remarketing tags anywhere on the site.
Changing your preferences
You can change your cookie choices at any time by using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of every page. You can also clear cookies set by this site through your browser settings. Most browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) include cookie controls in their privacy settings; instructions are available on each browser's support site.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed industry standard for how sites should respond to it. Our default position makes it largely moot: every optional service above stays off until you actively accept it in our banner, whether or not your browser sends DNT.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when we add or remove embeds or change how cookies are used on the site. The "last updated" date at the bottom shows the most recent revision.
